Grythyttan Stålmöbler

Swedish craftsmanship in the heart of Marais.

At Grythyttan Stålmöbler, we have a long-standing tradition of creating outdoor furniture that combines quality, design, and durability. Our range is thoughtfully crafted to create inviting spaces under the open sky, from timeless classics to modern designs by leading Nordic designers. With a passion for craftsmanship and a commitment to excellence, we offer furniture meant to be enjoyed and cherished for generations.

All production is still carried out by hand in the factory in Grythyttan. The steel is bent and shaped using spirit levels, trained eyes, and years of expertise.

We use only South American oak, teak, and Swedish pine with the highest environmental certifications. Each plank is carefully selected by our craftsmen. They study the colour, grain, density and appearance of the wood. No knots or cracks are allowed. Thanks to this rigorous approach to quality, our furniture ages very well. Like all living materials, the wood is affected by the sun, wind, rain and moisture, and become even

more beautiful over time. Look after your Grythyttan furniture and you’ll certainly be able to enjoy it for many years to come, even if you leave it outside. The steel surfaces are galvanized or laquered, before the wooden parts are assembled and the quality stamp is screwed on. No two pieces of furniture from the Grythyttan factory are identical

Once upon a time there was blacksmith...

In 1930, the Swedish family owned company Grythyttan Stålmöbler (Grythyttan Steel Furniture) designed and manufactured their first chair, the A2, which was introduced at The Stockholm Exhibition. The gentle rocking sensation of the sprung steel gave a unique sense of relaxation and the functional design was timeless. Success was immediate, and a complete range of garden furniture soon followed.

A passion for craftsmanship, never ending curiosity and constant inventiveness have provided the input mechanisms for our family business since start-up. These elements have resulted in many busy and exciting years of product development, keeping up with the times and a number of innovations. Many hours at the drawing table, long nights in the workshops and lengthy discussions with top architects and designers have resulted in a wide range of products over the years. Some of Scandinavia’s most prominent designers, including Jonas Bohlin, Andreas Engesvik, Carl Hörvik, Rune Monö, and Nisse Strinning have put their stamps on Grythyttan Stålmöbler.

Quality and Craftmanship

Every piece of furniture is the result of dedicated craftsmanship. Our blacksmiths work with the utmost precision and care to ensure that the legacy and history of Grythyttan Stålmöbler live on.

The furniture is made from the highest quality spring steel. The secret behind the characteristic rocking motion of the chairs lies in the frame, which is manufactured on-site at the factory in Grythyttan. This is a process that cannot be automated but requires skill and experience to achieve perfection.

The raw materials are carefully inspected before production begins. Each piece of furniture takes time to craft, and we instill professional pride, a deep understanding of materials, and skilled craftsmanship into every plank, curve, and screw. That is why we only produce a limited number of pieces each year. This is what makes us Grythyttan Stålmöbler.
